St Mary Junior Girls Soccer Team Repeats as LOSSA Champions!
I say blue, you say white… I say Monarchs, you say win…
After winning the LOSSA gold medal last year, the grade 9's made a pact to stay together as juniors and defend their championship title this season. We had two objectives: win a second LOSSA gold and have a blast doing so! We had a “perfect season” finishing 6-0 in league play, and were the Notre Dame/Denis O'Connor tournament champions. We entered playoffs in first place, defeated Sinclair 2-0 in quarter-finals, Richardson 8-0 in semi-finals and Ajax 4-2 in the championship game. Our overall record was 13 wins and 0 losses, with 49 goals for and only 4 against!
We are fortunate at St Mary to be able to select a team from a large pool of talented and skilled soccer players. Since these students have been playing highly competitive soccer for many years, we as coaches believe that the St Mary team is an opportunity for the girls to rediscover the joy of the sport. This year's “dream team” was composed of ladies who are competitive, aggressive, determined, co-operative, pleasant and most importantly, enthusiastic! It was a delight to watch the girls in action - demonstrating powerful skills, teamwork, communication, and plenty of smiling and giggling! We would also like to wish good luck to Arin King who has been invited to try-out for the Under-17 National Team this summer!
