Parents and Students – congratulations! The first semester is over and we are beginning the second half of the school year. I hope all the students did well on their exams and are excited about the second semester.

We have a very active School Council this year with approximately 20 active members who regularly attend our meetings. In the upcoming meetings we will be discussing the School Code of Conduct, Safe School Surroundings, and the changes in the High School Curriculum. All parents are welcome to attend. It is a well known fact that students have greater success if the parents are involved in their child's education – so I highly recommend that you be involved – attend council meetings; help with homework, and attend the Parent/Teacher Interviews, and get to know the new friends.

The School Council meeting minutes are posted on the School website. Please log on and check it out. It is a great way to find out what is happening in our school. You will also find the daily announcements, department messages, school calendar and a lot of other interesting information.

The School Council held the Silent Auction at the November Parent /Teacher Interviews. It was a great success and we were able to donate $1,133.00 to the Christmas Outreach Program, helping families in our community at Christmas.

The Staff at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School are very supportive of our children and want them all to succeed. They are very open to conversation with parents and like us to be involved in our children's education. Should your child be struggling with credits, please talk to the Guidance Council. There are many options for Student Success and the Guidance Councilors have a wealth of information and expertise regarding the curriculum – course choices – and options for after high school. They are here to help and do a great job.

I would like to say congratulations to all the students who did well on their exams and best of luck to everyone during the next semester. Thank you to all the parents who faithfully attend the monthly council meetings, and would like to invite all parents to attend the upcoming meetings, Tuesday, February 5 th , Tuesday, April 8 th , and Tuesday May 6 th . All meetings begin at 7:00 pm in the School Resource Centre.
