Grade 12 Photography

Ms. O'Leary's Grade 12 Photography class has developed their techniques in darkroom, both digitally and traditionally from their previous year, and have applied their skills to the curriculum set for this semester. With these skills the photo students have continued to expand on their knowledge, skill, and creativity by using Adobe Photoshop on their digital photographs.

The photography students have just begun to use two different mediums this year. Normally they use an SLR 18-55mm lens camera with traditional black and white film that is developed in the St. Mary's darkroom, which is located in room 262. The students use the correct measurements of chemical solution to develop the negatives and minimal light source to expose a light sensitive paper on an enlarger from the negatives which are then soaked for a duration of time in three types of chemical solution; this produces the images that the students have photographed.

But now they have taken a step out of the box by using today's technology more popular technology being the digital SLR cameras, which are more convenient considering no chemicals are needed, because the photographs can be uploaded directly from the camera using a USB plug which is then plugged into the computer, where each file will transfer from the image source to the storage source.

So far throughout the semester the students were required to complete two tasks, one being from a Farm Trip to classmate, Christin McCartney's house, and the other being to follow a theme of Surrealism. The following pictures posted are some of the digital photographs taken by the Grade 12 Photography students.

Currently in the class, the next assignment for the next photo shoot is to create an album cover for an iconic album for a particular artist or group. These shots will be posted when completed.
